2024 Candidates
Council District 2: Joe Lopez
Joe Lopez will bring a record of service and a focus on our most important issues to the City Council. The son of farmworkers and a resident of San Jose for more than 50 years, Joe spent more than three decades keeping our communities safe while working for the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department. On the City Council, he will focus on homelessness, keeping our city safe, and ensuring our tax dollars are well spent.
Joe is endorsed by the Mercury News and the San Jose Police Officers' Association. The Mercury News called Joe the "standout" candidate, and said he "has a firm grasp of the issues challenging the city."
Council District 4: David Cohen
For the past 3 years, David Cohen has worked tirelessly to improve the quality of life for the people in District 4, where he has taken on the most challenging issues. He is endorsed by the Mercury News, which says he is "a smart and independent thinker" who deserves another term on the council.
David Cohen will continue the work of building more affordable housing to address our housing crisis, investing in a sustainable future for our children, protecting open spaces, building new parks, and improving public safety.
Council District 6: Michael Mulcahy
Michael Mulcahy was born and raised in San Jose, and has the experience we need on the City Council. A business owner and community leader, he supports quickly building more shelter to bring our homeless neighbors indoors, and fully staffing our police department to keep our neighborhoods safe. He will lead efforts to create high-wage jobs and support new housing near jobs and transit.
Endorsed by the Mercury News, Mayor Matt Mahan, and the San Jose Police Officers' Association, Michael Mulcahy will bring proven solutions to the City Council and work every day to make San Jose a safe, strong, and vibrant city.
Council District 10: George Casey
George Casey is the leader District 10 needs. He supports cost-effective and proven solutions to the homelessness crisis, such as investing in prefabricated housing and tiny homes, as well as prevention services that help people avoid homelessness in the first place.
On the City Council, George will focus on the issues most important to our daily lives. He supports building more housing, especially downtown and near transit, and will stand up for responsible spending that doesn’t threaten city services. He will also prioritize keeping our streets safe, which is why he’s been endorsed by the San Jose Police Officers’ Association.
George Casey grew up in District 10, where he is now raising his own family. He is committed to working together to build a better future for San Jose.
